Drafix Cad Windows 10

Drafix

Recently I had to convert a CAD file to DWG for a surveyor. I opened the CAD file up in a text editor and the third line read ‘Drafix Windows CAD’. I searched the web for the Drafix software and everyone had the same problem. Drafix CAD was no longer able to be purchased or downloaded from anywhere.

Further reading online, I found that Autodesk AutoSketch may be able to read these CAD files, so I borrowed a copy from my friend and who had AutoSketch 9. It managed to install successfully on my Windows 7 x64 machine, but I had problems running it. I used the inbuilt Windows Program Compatibility tool (search ‘compatibility’ in the start menu). I ran the tool and pointed it to the AutoSketch 9 install. Amazing it worked and I managed to read my CAD file perfectly. I then saved it to various different formats.

I have an old (1988) Dos Cad program called Drafix 1Plus which I upgraded to Drafix Cad Ultra. It first ran on my IBM PS 2 computer with DOS. It then ran on my AST MS DOS PC. It continued to work on my Sony VAIO RX770 with XP just fine. However, it failed to work on my new Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista. The Longbow Reviver makes old Windows XP programs install and run in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 again NOTE: This tool is not intended for use with AutoCAD An extremely useful tool for people with old Windows XP applications that will not run anymore on Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows Vista, both 32bit or 64bit. Log in / Sign up. Windows › General › Drafix › 4.1. Choose the most popular programs from System Tools.

Windows can't open this file: example.dfx To open this file, Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select one from a list of programs that are installed on your computer. To avoid this error, you need to set the file association correctly.

I have an old (1988) Dos Cad program called Drafix 1Plus which I upgraded to Drafix Cad Ultra. It first ran on my IBM PS 2 computer with DOS. It then ran on my AST MS DOS PC. I am able to print my old drawing files by using a program called “DOSPRN” with intercepts printer bound files and converts them so they will print on new systems. (You can google DOSPRN to learn more about this program.)
The bad problem, though, is that I am not able to edit the old files or create new ones. When I try to run Drafix, I do not get the usual opening drawing screen but I get an error message saying that
“the system does not support full screen operation ... press cancel to exit or press ignore.”
If I press ignore several times, I get a blank black screen with a blinking cursor. But it will not accept data from either the keyboard or mouse.
Does anyone out there see a solution to this problem before I take the drastic action of learning a new cad program? Besides Drafix is like an old friend that I want to keep.:
