What is an SNAG file?
File created by SnagIt, a screen capturing and image annotation program; stores a bitmap of the captured image as well as drawn vector objects, such as callouts and arrows; stores the vector graphics as 'unflattened' objects, meaning they can be moved and edited before being rasterized, or 'flattened,' into a final raster graphic.
SNAG files are used for editing and annotating screen captures. Since they store graphics using a proprietary format, they are not suitable for sharing with others. However, SNAG files can be exported to several other formats for sharing, including .JPG, .PNG, .GIF, .BMP, .PDF, .TIF, and .SWF.
SNAG files are actually saved, opened, and edited using the SnagIt Editor, a program included with the SnagIt installation. After taking a screen capture using SnagIt, the software automatically opens the resulting image in SnagIt Editor for editing.
NOTE: SNAG is the Snagit project file used by Windows systems, while the .SNAGPROJ file is used by Mac systems.
